I am your friend like this...

Happy Birthday Karaface! And Happy birthday Morgan!

I'm not saying who's older, because that's always up for debate because of timezones. But, yaay birthdays!

I got a designing gig, which is very exciting for me, in that hopefully I'll be able to actually make some money at this drawing pictures thing. That's the idea anyway. Hm. Still keeping up on comics and ComicSpace
is a tremendous time suck for me, because you can check out so many different comics so easily, and it's led to me having three or four new comics that I'm trying to catch up on the archives of. When I'm caught up I'll add links to my links page, so everyone can check them out.

Oh yeah. And as for the above strip, we're going to pretend that I wouldn't do this. Uhm, and haven't done this. To be fair, when I was asking, it was at a bar in San Francisco, and he very well could have been gay. And I was asking for a straight friend. So there.

Jehovasaurus.

This is apparently a true story. Well, not necessarily the reign of dinosaurs thing. Although, we should have whatever the equivalent of
33 years is in Komodo Dragon years. Another one of those weird lizard things, it's all very Jurassic Park. Anyway, this is my response to it. Probably because I'm rereading Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff,
by Christopher Moore. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it, it's hilarious, especially if you lean towards being a blasphemous type, like I do. (Blaspheme, blaspheyou, blashpheverybodyinthewoooorld.)

ComicSpace!

I'm super ahead this week. It's not even ten on Tuesday and I'm already done with this strip.
So, essentially I am made of win, and I'm going to sleep in like whoa tomorrow. Mmmm. Nap. Muahaha.

More updates! I also joined Comic Space It's sort of like MySpace, but just for comic writers/artists and fans. Plus, it doesn't have the much-hated
embedded music feature that MySpace has. It looks pretty interesting, plus, some of the comics I already read are on there. Which causes me joy. You should go check it out. Dooo it. The bunnies demand it. Hm. It's been a while since I posted bunnies of some kind.
I should get on that.

Lists...

So many updates this week! Not as in extra comic updates, but with tweedly things I've done to the site. Obviously, I've been making some changes around here, complete with ads and the like, and
I'm trying to organize things so it looks a little more like a real website, and not just fluff that I puked off into the internet (colorful image, no?).

Here's what I've done, if you want to look around for it.

  • Added Striptease, CedarWolf's Palace, and Friendly Hostility to the links page.
  • Added easier navigation on the links page, so that you can click to go to each section, rather than scrolling for a millionty years.
  • Learned to make image maps sans wizard.
  • Added Agate to the cast page (he's quite pleased). Click the thumbnail for the full picture of him.
  • Added a "watercolor" pic of Gwydia to the art gallery. Actually, I did it Corel Painter, but I wanted to play with the watercolor features. S'ok.
  • Reconfigured the LiveJournal Community to match the website... ooooh... soo coordinated.
  • Learned to make lists with bullety things! As you can see here...

Hits!

I'm not totally sure if she reads the comic or not, but, if she does, happy birthday to Kiyo. Man, lots of birthdays this week.
Well, two, but that's still statistically many more than- the entire run of the comic so far. Hmm. What's going on.

Oh! The comic has over 5,000 hits so far! And the average number of visitors per day for the month of January is double what it was in December! Which, is really freakin' cool. You guys
roxxor my soxxor.

Programming....

First off, Happy Birthday Harmonmica!

Secondly, I've been making some changes around here, so that this looks a little more like a real website. I also signed up for some ad-type things, in the
hopes of getting a little scratch going. We'll see how that goes, but, it's something anyway. So, this has been my experiment with advertising and different kinds
of programming. Whee!

Ads, and crazy.

So, some things going on. I have a couple of small ads places, thanks to Project Wonderful which lets you bid on ad space, for, like, a few cents, sometimes free.
I'm giving it a try.

Some other changes, I made an 'About GB' section, (see the link up there, right next to the one for the LJ Community?) Which will take you to a brief description of where the comic started, and how it came to life.

[It's ALLIIIIVVVVVVE!]

</Frankenstein>

Where was I? Oh yah. Anyway, GB has it's roots in gaming, which is why it's Geeky, and not just Blather. It could be Blather, but- then it wouldn't be an accurate reflection, right?

Oh balls. I'm writing this too late at night again, and rambling. Anyway. History exists! If you have an LJ or a Facebook id, join the community!

I'm a geek.

I admit it. In case it's not painfully obvious, I am something of a geek. I realized this, when
I had to put my dice and counters away to make room for a coffee cup on the desk. See, there wasn't enough room to just nudge
them to the side, because I may (and my may, I mean do) have five sets of dice. Which is (-cue mathface-) something like forty dice. And then when you factor in another forty pieces for my counters.
Well, it's kind of a lot. I can't help it. They're soooo shiiiiny...

Intarweb Vocabulary

So, I know it doesn't seem like it from that end, but this has been a productive week. In that, it's Tuesday night (as I'm writing this) and the comic for Thursday is already totally finished.
Oops. I lied. It's actually early Wednesday morning, but still. -points- Look how ahead! This was a frustrating, and a fun strip to draw.
I have issues with perspective, which sometimes causes my three-dimensional spaces to look weird. On the other hand, I got to design a space!
No, wait. I drew a pre-designed space, because I already knew what Ayen's living room looked like (although the painting above the couch varies, depending on my mood. This one is a Monet.)
Well, the fun part is figuring out what it looks like in my head. And arranging furniture and things. The hard part is... actually making it look like that. I don't hate this though, so that's all well and good.
I also had fun drawing Gwydia, in the middle.

One of the things I really like about doing a webcomic is that I can play with formats and layout and things. In a newspaper strip, the formats are pretty well locked in stone. This, I have
two panels, ten panels, no panels, circular panels! (One panel, two pane, red panel, blue panel?) I can have stuff leaning out of panels, and all that jazz. It happies me. [Translation: It causes me happiness. There
isn't a very good verb for 'to make happy.' It... injoys me? Hmmm. I think I need to read something other than shiny magazines. Anyway. Happies. Causes happiness. Happies. Crazy Intarwebs word o'the day.]

Communities!

Yeah yeah, kick me for not having a Saturday comic. -kicks self- Do you want to hear my excuse? If you do, it's because I was driving Kara to the airport at 3am, and didn't get back home until 7am. At which point I collapsed
and slept like the dead until two in the afternoon. I was still entirely too cracked to draw though, in that any questions had like- a five second delay before I could manage to answer them. Which was really really amusing for Miles. Who kept asking
me things, and throwing non-sequitors at me for his own amusement. Because he's a booger, and that's fun for him. Anyway. Yes.
I'm continuing to pimp the LiveJournal Community. People who join get virtual cookies. So... they should. Definitely.
What else? Something about fish...

Oh! Literally! Something about fish! While she was bisiting me (that's a purposeful typo) Kara outlined her version of the first comic, as done with fish. Which will be posted- maybe Saturday, maybe as just an extra goodie comic.
There's also a FaceBook Group. It has 50 people in it so far! (As of- about 11.25 on Sunday night, so probably more than that now.) But, dood! Exciting.

I am aware of the existence of Myspace but... there's just so few things I like about it. Especially the fact that people can embed music into the page. If I have the sound on, it's probably because I'm listening to something I like.
It's likely not what you like. And even if I don't hate your music- who's to say I wanted to listen to it anyway? In general, I think the layouts are cluttered and fussy. And really- I have this space, and a DA, and Livejournal. And Facebook- which is good for
networking. What more do I need?

Oh yah. Miles was asking, 'How come you don't just have a forum on the comic?' Well... because somewhere around eleventy jillion people use Livejournal (I don't have the exact figures on that, but I estimate it to be somewhere in the jillions) and, not a jillion
hits here every day. See- really, the LJ Community, is to pimp the comic, because I tend to scour other communities and f-lists for things I might like and check them out. And, I'm guessing I'm not the only one.
That said, there is the possibility of starting a forum here, if people are interested in that kind of thing, I can look into it. Have I said people are welcome to email to me/post to the lj any arts they feel like creating? Because they totally are. And, just because
I don't have a fanart page yet, doesn't mean I'm opposed to one...
